The start of a new year feels like a good moment to reflect on what really helps local places thrive, and to acknowledge that much of what we’ve learned has come from doing, testing, listening and adapting along the way.
Together with my inspiring wife, Rachael Fisher , I’m proud to have co-founded and now support Lyona Wellbeing (studios, café & shop), HurstWorks Coworking, and Wellness34 treatment rooms here in Hurstpierpoint. Each has been shaped by real-world experience, with the simple aim of helping people feel well, work well and enjoy their local high street.
Alongside this, we’ve begun investing in and supporting high streets beyond Sussex, applying those same lessons as we go.
We’re also beyond excited to be involved with banxlocal.uk in an advisory role, helping to reimagine community hub banking through a phygital model — blending digital financial services with welcoming, physical spaces that bring people back onto the high street.
For our local friends we’ve shared a few New Year offers in the latest issue of the fabulous HurstLife (hat tip to the amazing David Tingley and his growing network of local community magazines) as a small thank you to the local folks that continue to support independent businesses.
Our high streets really matter — and with the right mix of care, collaboration and a willingness to learn by doing, they can thrive again.
Here’s to a positive year ahead, in Hurstpierpoint, the South East and beyond.
